Eastern and Central North America (Red Maple) The dark green leaves of silver maple have silvery undersides that are easily exposed in the slightest breeze, giving this tree its common name. This is one of the largest deciduous trees. The other variety is red maple. It is a medium-sized, deciduous tree. This is a rounded to open-crown deciduous tree. The tree blooms to produce red flowers in dense clusters in late March to early April (before the leaves appear). Other characteristics are red fruit, reddish stems and twigs, red buds, and, in autumn, excellent orange-red foliage colour.
