The plant is an evergreen perennial or small, semiwoody shrub with fleshy, tidy, rosette leaves. Leaves grow in a variety of colours and patterns, from light green to variegate with deep purple. Aeonium plants grow up to 3 feet tall. Flowers appear in spring to summer. The plants are grown in temperate greenhouses, in borders, or as house plants. One characteristic of these plants is the very sticky stem of the inflorescence. Small stalks with flowers continue to appear for several months.
