The plant is an evergreen perennial. It is an odd member of the blueberry family. The plant has long, arching stems adorned with scarlet, jewel-like blooms. The fascinating patterns of this plant make it a very artistic addition to the garden. The branches themselves are beautiful, with their artistic rows of small, closelyspaced leaves often tinged with red. The delightful blooms appear from about February through June, and occasionally other times of the year. It is mostly grown in climates from cool temperate to sub-tropical. It can be propagated from cuttings.
