It belongs to the family of mint and is a perennial and self-fertile plant. Typical of the mint family, the stems are square and they can grow up to 4 inches tall. There are about 30 species of agastache. The plant grows well in full sunny conditions but should be protected from any extreme conditions such as high winds. It is used in Mexican folk medicine to treat anxiety, insomnia and pain. The younger leaves possess slight lemon-like odour. These young leaves can be used in tea or as a herb in salads or cooked dishes.
