This species of tuna is the popular ‘white meat tuna’ available in the US. Its bullet-shaped body is designed for speed and is dark blue with shades of white ventrally. Its average length is 1.4 metres and it weighs up to 60 kg and life span is 12 years. These fish are open sea hunters feeding on cephalopods, fish, crustaceans and gelatinous organisms. Spawning is from November to February.
