Many years ago, there was a slave to a rich man, named Androcles. One day, Androcles fled into the forest, away from his master. He wandered through the forest in search of food and shelter. He came across a Lion moaning and groaning and roaring terribly.
As Androcles looked closely, he noticed that the Lion’s paw was swollen. He went close to the Lion and he took the paw in his hands. He witnessed a big thorn pressed into the paw, which was the cause of the Lion’s trouble. Androcles instantly pulled out the thorn and the Lion took a sigh of relief. The Lion instantly showed his gratitude towards Androcles by licking him. As the night dawned, the Lion took Androcles to his cave, and they lived together.
But a few days later, Androcles and the Lion were captured by the Emperor’s soldiers. The slave was given harsh punishment. The Emperor asked the soldiers to throw him in front of the hungry Lion. The Lion was also not given food for several days.
On the day of Androcles’ punishment, he was brought into the arena. Then the hungry Lion was released into the arena. The Lion saw his prey and rushed towards him. Just as he came closer, he recognised Androcles and suddenly stopped.
Instead of attacking Androcles, the Lion licked him and stroked him with his paw. He did not harm Androcles. Everyone in the arena was surprised watching the Lion’s affection.
The Emperor summoned Androcles to him and heard the whole story. The Emperor set Androcles free and sent the Lion back to the forest.
