The Angkor Wat temple was built in the 12th century, in Cambodia. The Angkor Wat temple started out as a Hindu temple, but was gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple. Angkor Wat meaning ‘The City of Temples’, combined ‘temple-mountain’ and ‘galleried temple’ kinds of architecture. The temple has been built to represent Mount Meru, the home of the Lord Brahma and other demi-gods (in Hindu Mythology).
Amazing Fact: Unlike other temples in the region that are aligned facing the east, this temple was aligned to the west. It faces sunset and the evening sun adds to its beauty in the evening.
