Anhinga

The Anhinga anhinga (scientific name) or anhinga is found mostly on the American Continent. Divided into 2 species based on their locations, one of them is found in the Andes in South America and in Trinidad and Tobago, while the other is found in Southern USA. 33 inches in length, the anhinga is mostly glossy black, with a greenish shine on the body and bluish shine on the wings and tail. The upper body has long elongated feathers which are purplish-white. The beak and tip of the tail is orange-yellow. Its diet is comprised mainly of fish, though it is also known to eat crustaceans and invertebrates. A clutch has 3-5 eggs incubated for 25-28 days by both the sexes. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
