Anna was going to her friend’s birthday party. “Meow!” she heard a sound and saw Tinker, Mrs. Brown’s cat with a kitten in her mouth. Anna, who loved animals, followed her to a barn and saw that Tinker had hidden her three kittens there. “I should take them into the house,” said Anna to herself though she knew she was going to spoil her dress. She put the kittens in a box and carried them to Mrs. Brown who thanked her gladly. Tinker looked at the box in dismay. “I have been looking for them everywhere,” exclaimed the old lady. By then, it was too late to go to the party.
Sadly Anna returned home and told her mother what had happened. The next morning, Anna’s mother handed her a basket with a smile. Anna peeped in and shouted with joy. Mrs. Brown had sent her a kitten!
