Appearances are Deceptive

A man without knowledge is not far to be called an animal. All our progress is the product of our perfect knowledge. Similarly, it is a wise saying that we should not judge a person or thing by appearance. Our eyes are not the best judge. They cannot peep deep inside the heart of things. Whatever glitters is not always gold. It may be just an illusion to our eyes. In fact, the cheaper a thing, the more attractive it is. Now that what is true of metals does holds true in case of persons as well. Every well-dressed man is not a gentleman. Every beggar is not a saint. A man may smile and yet he may be a villain. In other words, outward show is often misleading. We should judge things by their inner worth. The real test of a man lies in his deeds and not in his words. So the openness of one’s mind is advisable in every circumstance.
