Jawaharlal had only one slogan—Aram Haram Hai. He repeated it again and again and on every occasion. It was not only a saying; he himself used to work for 20 hours a day. Hundreds of national and international problems surrounded him everyday. For a person who is moving higher and higher on a developing path, there is no scope for relaxation. Once a person asked him, “What are our major problems?’’ Nehruji replied, “We had 40 crore problems equalling the number of individuals of our country. We had to look after each of them. Then only we can do justice to our nation. Each and every individual will became prosperous but for this it is necessary that everybody should work with their own hands devotedly, try to increase the production and don’t depend on others.
Visit to U.S.S.R. (Soviet Union)
In June 1955, Jawaharlal went on an official tour to Soviet Union. He was surprised to find that the hosts had organised an unprecedented welcome. For many months the Soviet leaders had realised how helpful to their own interests Nehru’s general polices had been. All the members were present at the airport in Moscow, and Bulganin (PM of Soviet Union) for the first time in his career, drove with Nehruji in an open car through the milling streets of the capital. Whole Moscow was decorated like a newly wed bride. All the main areas had huge welcome arches written on it with big letters—“Welcome the Prime Minister of India : Jawaharlal Nehru. The whole environment was echoing of Indo-Russian national songs. Slogan of Indo-Russian unity written in every corner of the streets. Before leaving from airport, Jawaharlal received guard of honour. He shaked hand with all the dignitaries. Children gave him flowers and at some places welcome was of a different style. Nehruji was extremely happy on seeing the children and all the tireness of the journey went off. He gave a short speech on airport in Hindi before leaving and everybody was delighted to hear his sentimental speech and gave him a loud clapping.
In a note on his visit to Soviet Union on 1 August 1955, he said—
“With so much to safeguard and so much yet to be done, the people and rulers of the Soviet Union appeared eager for peace; for they were confident that given time they could do as well economically as the U.S.”
Nehruji visited many places of Central Asia, along with his daughter Indira and his colleagues. And in each and every place he received a enthusiastic reception. People welcomed him with open hearts. Every body was raising the slogan of “Indo-Russian Unity Zindabad.” While returning from Soviet Union, Jawaharlal also visited Varsa, Belgrade, London and Cairo and gave the message of peace and also the importance of Panchsheel.
