Once, Hanuman told Arjuna about the stone bridge that the monkeys had built over the ocean. Arjuna asked why Rama did not build a bridge of arrows to cross the ocean. Hanuman challenged him to build a bridge capable of bearing him alone. Arjuna accepted the challenge. Hanuman easily destroyed the bridge made by Arjuna. Arjuna was surprised and felt embarrassed. Lord Vishnu appeared before them and scolded Arjuna for his vanity and Hanuman for making Arjuna feel incompetent. Hanuman decided to help Arjuna by strengthening his chariot during Kurukshetra battle. After the battle was over, Krishna asked Arjuna to step down the chariot before him. After Arjuna had got down, Krishna followed him and thanked Hanuman for staying with them during the whole fight in the form of a flag on the chariot. Hanuman came in his original form and flew away into the sky. Soon the chariot began to burn and was reduced to ashes. Arjuna was shocked to see this. Then Krishna told Arjuna that the chariot would have been burnt many days ago due to the effect of celestial weapons thrown at it in the war but because of the presence of Hanuman this chariot was still intact.
