Arrest of Hitler

Hitler’s party was now well entrenched. Its roots had gone deep into the public mind. The party’s head- quarter was at Munich, the capital of Bavaria state.
On 12 September, 1923 Hitler made a scathing attack on the government. On 25th September, he held a meeting with his confidants and decided that the party needed to go to the people to win their hearts and confidence to advance towards the power.
The very next day meetings were programmed at a number of places in Munich. Thousands of storm troopers were appointed to be stationed at those places.
The Bavarian government got wind of the activities of Hitler and declared emergency in the state. All the meetings of Hitler were banned.
It infuriated Hitler. He screamed that a bloody revolution would be started to answer the ban. Through his speeches and activities he had made clear that he opposed the policies of the government. And he had gained so much public support that he could easily challenge the government.
The situation in Germany was again like that in 1918. There was confusion everywhere. Civil War like situations stared in the face in most of the states. Several states were heading towards open rebellion against the country. France was issuing threat after threat to Germany.
Hitler now realised that to save the Germany his seizing the power was essential. With that idea he hatched a plan to arrest Prince Ruperecht, the State Commissioner Mr. Koher, top leader Loslow and Ceaser when they were to come to inspect a parade on 4 November, 1923 in Munich. After taking them prisoners the plan was to declare a National Revolution. But it could not be done.
The plan was put in action on 8th November when Mr. Koher, Loslow and Ceaser were holding a meeting. Hitler stormed with pistol in hand and thousands of storm troops in tow. He jumped in over the boundary wall, got on the roof, fired his pistol and announced the beginning of the National Revolution. Bavaria and German Reich governments were declared as dismissed. In their place National Government was declared to take charge.
On 19th November the army laid a siege to the city of Munich and Hitler declared himself to be the Dictator of the Germany. The army marched to the meeting hall. The army still was with the state governments. The firing began. Hitler and his band were in the hall. Many were killed in the shoot out. Hitler was hit on shoulder. He was arrested in the injured state. Hitler’s plan to overthrow the governments had failed.
