The Ávila Walls are a historic feature used as fortifications. The Walls were built around the city of Ávila, Spain. They were constructed between the 11th and 14th centuries.
Why they are special: The Ávila Walls are a symbolic structure with a perimeter of 2,516 metres with 88 semi-circular towers. Enclosing an area of 31 hectares, the Walls included 9 gates (built over different periods of time), the apse of the cathedral and twin towers (each 20 metres in height). Perfectly maintained, these Walls have become an iconic representation of the city.
