It is a perennial, creeping herb. The leaves of this plant are succulent, oblong and 4-6 millimetres thick. The leaves are oblanceolate and are arranged oppositely on the stem. It is a popular aquarium plant due to its ability to grow in water. The flowers are small and white, with four or five petals. In India, it is used as an Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of a number of disorders, particularly those involving anxiety, intellect and poor memory.
