A strange artifact was found in Baghdad, Iraq, which later came to be known as the Baghdad Battery. This 2,000-year-old artifact has an undeniable resemblance to today’s batteries. It is a 6-inch clay vase with an inner copper cylinder and a central iron rod. When a model of the battery was made in the lab and tested, it produced a small amount of electricity. The only question that couldn’t be answered was what the battery would have been used for. Was it just a scroll holder or did they know how to electroplate 2,000 years ago?
