Baking at Ford Farm

A Food Fair was held at the Ford Farm. Everyone was excited, especially because at the end there would be a baking competition! Mattie was looking forward to winning it, for she had learnt to make a marble cake and longed to win the prize! Then she could set up her little shop in the village and people would buy her cakes and bread. She would not have to look for a job in the city. The fair was a great success and everything went off smoothly. Finally, it was time to judge the cakes. Mrs Ford, Mr Godfrey, the baker, and Mrs Penworth, the Vicar’s wife, were the judges. They arrived at the two best cakes. One was a chocolate cake made by Mrs Dundee, who won regularly and the other was Mattie’s cake. They whispered and then Mrs Ford announced: “The winner is Mattie!” Everyone cheered, even Mrs Dundee.
