Bali was the monkey king of Kishkindha. He had a younger brother named Sugreeva. Both brothers had great love and respect for each other. The kingdom of Kishkindha had a demon enemy called Mayavee. Tired of his frequent attacks, Bali decided to kill him. Bali went to Mayavee and a violent fight ensued between them. During their fight, they entered a deep dark cave. Sugreeva was ordered by Bali to keep a watch outside till Bali emerged out of the cave. Time passed and the sounds of the roaring fight could be heard by Sugreeva. Slowly the sounds got fainter and finally stopped. After waiting for many days, when neither Bali nor the demon came out, Sugreeva thought they had both been killed. Feeling sad about on his brother’s death, he went back to Kishkindha and became its new king. However, Bali returned after killing Mayavee. When he saw that Sugreeva had become the king himself, he thought that he had been betrayed. Though Sugreeva tried to explain the misunderstanding yet Bali attacked and forced him and his team of monkeys to move out of Kishkindha. Bali regained his kingship but became an enemy of Sugreeva forever.
