Bali Mynah

The Leucopsar rothschildi (scientific name) or Bali mynah is found only on the island of Bali, Indonesia. With a length of approximately 9.8 inches, the Bali mynah is completely white with a long drooping crest, except for the black on the tail and wing tips. The legs are grey and the beak yellow. What makes it stand out is the patch of bare blue skin around the eyes. Its diet is comprised of seeds and fruits, as also worms and insects. An average clutch has 2-3 eggs in nests made in tree cavities, and incubated by the female alone for 2 weeks. This bird is the only vertebrate animal on the island and hence is the fauna symbol of Bali. Its IUCN listing is CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.
