Banaue-Rice-Terraces

The Banaue Rice Terraces are a major tourist attraction that comprise terraces carved into the mountains of Ifugao. They situated in the mountains of Ifugao, in Philippines. They are said to be 2,000 years ago.

Why they are special: Considered to be the Eighth Wonder of the World, the Banaue Rice Terraces were constructed mostly by hand without the use of equipment. Situated 1500 metres above the sea level, this man-made wonder is fed water through an ancient irrigation system of rainforests. If the terraces were placed end to end, it is said that they would cover half the globe. While the terraces are still used for farming purposes, land erosion and drought have become increasingly troubling in recent times.
