Working as a officer in a Bank is considered honourable profession from all ages. Young men and women have a strong craze for Banking services. This is the reason young group gives preference for providing their services to banks as compared to any other services. There are better chances of promotion in banks and employees are provided with better facilities. Therefore, working in Banks is always considered prestigious. The boundaries of banking business have expanded in the era of economic liberalization. This is the reason that there are great possibilities in field of private banking.
Unlimited branches of banks all over the country are busy in providing their services and profits to consumers in rural, areas, cities, and metropolitan cities. Administrative offices are established to look for proper care bank’s working and control. There is an arrangement of direct appointments at positions like subordinate workers accountants and typewriter officers. For this eligibility parameter is also decided. Majority of appointments both in clerical cadre and officers cadre are made out of the employees already appointed in those posts.
In Public sector Bank Probationary Officers are directly appointed. Trial period is decided as 2 years in which, by giving satisfactory results, one is promoted to a normal bank officer. Most of the people who wants to have a future in banking services do not know that they have a direct admission option for becoming an Expert Officer in public sector. These Expert officers get salaries and facilities, not like any other banking officer. There are various options available for a career in different activities of banking services.
- Probationary Officer: In order to become a probationary Officer in any bank, candidate should be graduate from any recognised Institute, and should be have and age between “21 to 30” years. Before appointment, a written exam is organised, wherein descriptive questions were asked related to general knowledge and knowledge of English language. In total 225 questions were asked in the examination (75 marks of science or logic, 50 marks analytical ability, 50 marks of general knowledge and 50 marks of english language). Total time given to answer all the questions is 135 minutes. While answering the question candidate should keep in the mind that there is a deduction of 25% marks on any wrong answer (as negative marking).
- Marketing Officer: Marketing Officers are appointed for the marketing of banking services and credit cards. These officers prepare different schemes and implement them through different decided branches. Young people who have done degree or diploma in marketing management or have the management degree, with specialization in market-ing, are eligible for appointment at this position.
- Law Officer: Now there is a proposal in banks for the appointment of trained youths as Law Officers. These Law Officers advice banks in law matters, prepare petition and protects the legal interests of banks. These officers are appointed in banks either in the loan or in executive departments. At present in all the administrative departments of Banks, appointments of Law Officers has become compulsory. Candidate with high marks in law faculty are eligible for applying at this post.
- Economic Officer: There are great possibilities available for appointments of capable youths as Economic Officer in banking services. Economic Officer has to look after work of loans, deposits, budgets related to economic expenditure, and the analysis and research of it. Economic Experts prepare annual reports and other reports related to bank. These reports are then presented as an answer to the information asked by high Bank officials, Reserve Bank of India and the Government. Those young men and women who are graduate with economics and statistics are eligible for this post.
- Agriculture Officer: For Agriculture officers in the Banking services, Agriculture graduates or Agriculture Engineers are eligible as applicants. The work of Agriculture Officer is to provide help in agriculture finance, rural finance, implementation of schemes issued by the Government and to look after development of business in rural branches.
- Hindi Officer: In banking services Hindi Officer is also known as National Language Officer. The work of Hindi Officer is to encourage and broadcast the Hindi language in bank’s working. Translation from Hindi to English and English to Hindi, organising Hindi workshops and to prepare the material helpful in Hindi etc., are also work of a Hindi Officer. Applicants should be post graduate in Hindi or English or graduates in Hindi or English. Many of the banks made appointments of post graduates in economics or sanskrit. Those youth who are Ph.D in Hindi Literature were given preference while selection.
- Accountant Cadre: Candidates interested in Accountant cadre should be matriculated with at least 60% marks, or 10+2 with 50% marks from any recognised school. Graduate candidates were given preference while selection. Steno, typist, receptionist, telephone operators, etc. also comes under Accountant Cadre Department. For the best, the candidate age should be between 18 to 28 years.
In Banking services, after descriptive and written exam, one has to clear the personal interview also. During an interview, candidate is asked about his educational qualification, capacity to express, question related to general knowledge and banking business, their interests, other achievements and general behaviour, etc.
The Banking Service Board can make appointments at other positions also along with the above mentioned positions viz. chartered accountants, cost accountant, EDP officer, private secretary, security officer, law manager, human resource manager, technical officer, electronic data processing officer etc.
