The barnacle is a marine arthropod living in shallow and tidal waters. There are 1,220 species of the barnacle currently known. They hardly move and live attached to boats, rocks, turtles and whales. Some live within crabs. The shell, made of six plates, has feathery legs that draw water for filter feeding of plankton and microscopic plants and animals.
