The Battle of Oranges is actually a festival that takes place in Ivrea, Northern Italy.

As the story goes, the townspeople stormed the Duke’s palace and burned it down. The participants are divided into nine combat groups, who throw oranges at one another. The oranges are representative of stones that were thrown to destroy the palace. The event takes place over a span of three carnival days in February every year.
