A monk was travelling through a forest with two disciples. When they came across a pear tree, the monk decided to test his disciples. He asked the first one, “What do you think of this pear tree?” The disciple answered, “This pear tree is not good. It doesn’t give pears unless people hit it with stones and sticks. It is also clear from this tree that in order to get help from others, we need to be aggressive towards them.” Then, the monk asked the same question to the other disciple. He answered, “People hit it with stones and yet it gives sweet and juicy pears. I wish all human beings would learn to share their belongings even if they had to endure difficulties in life.” The monk was happy with the second disciple because he had appreciated the pear tree with a positive vision while the first disciple saw the pear tree with a negative vision.
