Beach

A narrow and gently sloping strip of land moving along the edge of an ocean, or sea is known as a beach. A beach contains sand, pebbles, rocks and seashell fragments. Weathering, erosion, sedimentation, wave currents, tides and ocean currents are the main creators of a beach. Sandy beaches are a result of sedimentation, when eroded bits of rock and mud gather together. The life of sandy beach is beneath the surface. Common habitants of sandy beaches are: shrimps, lugworms, scallops and heart urchins. Tides also play an important role in building beaches. High tide brings a lot of debris along with it and when the high tide water recedes, it leaves behind a ribbon of debris, called strandline.
