Beginning of five year plans

The planning commission was established by a resolution of the government of India on March 15, 1950. Nehru urged the planning commission to finalize a five-year plan with emphasis on self-sufficiency in food and the rapid reduction of unemployment. Hence in April 1951, it has the beginning of five year plans. Now India has to target new heights, prosperity and all round development. Large scale industries established. New projects like Bhakra-Nangal and Damodar Valley were established. Establishment of Panchayati-Raj in villages. The world was watching India’s progress towards socialization. Gandhi’s dream of establishing full democracy in each and every village in being fulfilled by Nehruji.
Always connected to people
Jawaharlal’s heart fully palpitated for his people. He keep on moving from towns to villages to meet them. He was the mass hero and use to mix with the people like a general person. He was serious about each and every problem of the people just like the head of the family. The people also loved him with the core of their heart. Everybody remained eager for his looks and speech.
Once he was travelling in South India. The train stopped at Pondichery station. Thousands of people were eagerly waiting to had a glimpse of their favourite leader, but the police restrained them outside the station and didn’t allow them on platform. Suddenly Jawaharlal heard a voice “Nehruji Zindabad”. Nehru arched outside from the window of bogey but there was no body. But Nehruji thought from where did the voice came? He soon realized that, the police had restrained their people. He came out and was upset from police immediately scolded them by saying that they want their people right now. He straightaway proceeded towards the main entrance of the platform and met his people. This was the love Nehruji had for his people.
Vision towards building Nation
He had a different view towards building the nation. He wanted every person to come forward for the development of their motherland. Once he was on inspection of Mythan Dam Project in Dhanbad. After mixing with the labourers, he asked one of them, “For whom you are working?’’ The labour replied—“For livelihood.” On hearing this Nehruji feeled very guilty and scolded the nearby engineers by saying that, “You all had ruined the dignity of India into mud. After so many years of Independence still they didn’t know that they are working for the development of their nation.”
The development of the nation was the first and foremost target of Jawaharlal. For this he can pay any cost.
Once he was on inspection of petroleum refinery. There by mistake some drops of oil fell on his long coat. He smiled with proud and said, “I will go to parliament in this dress only so that everybody should know that we can manufacture oil.” So much proud Jawaharlal had for his country; on his natural resources.
The Bhakhra Dam was built only with efforts of Jawaharlal. Damodar Valley project is also the outcome of his efforts. After this a series of Dams were built like Mythan, Hirakud, Nagaarjun Sagar, Rihand and Kosi etc. Steel industries established in Rourkela, Durgapur and Bhilai; Telephone industry in Bangalore, Rail coach factory in Perambur, Rail Engine factory in Chittaranjan, fertilizer plants at many places etc. Jawaharlal was the person who encouraged small scale industries, road construction in remote areas. Telegram and Telephone reached to distant places. Cooperative societies started and the list never ends. Jawaharlal had only one dream that India should progress and one day will became a developed nation.
