Billbergia is a perennial flowering ornamental houseplant. It grows on trees and on rocks or the ground in subtropical forests. It readily forms clumps of bronze-green leaf rosettes. The spikes of blue-green flowers are held on pink stems, providing dramatic colour contrasts. The leaf margins are usually finely toothed and the tip is pointed. They have small roots, mainly used for anchoring themselves on trees, so these tree-dwelling plants gather moisture and nutrients through their leaves.
