Birth and Death

Once, a lady came to meet the Buddha. She was crying bitterly. She said, “I am the most unfortunate person on the earth! My baby has died. Please bring it back to life.” The Buddha said, “Please stop crying. I can help you, but only if you can find one vital ingredient.” “What is that?” she asked. “You must bring me salt from a house where no one has ever died,” the Buddha replied. The lady spent the entire day running from one house to another, but could not find such a house. Finally, in the evening, she returned to the Buddha and said, “I now understand what you meant. Every person on the earth feels the same pain at losing a loved one.” The Buddha blessed her and said, “Be happy with what you have, instead of crying for what you have lost.”

Moral: We should learn to be grateful for what we have.
