During the rainy season, Shatrughna stopped at Valmiki’s ashrama for a night on his way to slay Lavanasura. It so happened that on the same night Seeta gave birth to twin boys. The ashrama children ran to tell Valmiki the news. He was delighted and came to see the little ones. He arranged for their safety and named them Kush and Luv. There was great celebration in the ashrama. Valmiki began to write the Luv-Kush Kanda of the Ramayana as he was already aware of the future. Shatrughna heard the news with great joy. He had so much to share at Ayodhya when he left. The boys grew up in natural surroundings, free and healthy. They adored their mother and respected Sage Valmiki deeply. Sage Valmiki taught them scriptures and also trained them in archery. They developed into fine archers.
