They are the largest land animals in these regions. Although they seem similar yet there are differences between the two animals. The North American bison has 15 ribs, 4 lumbar vertebrae, are slim in build with shorter legs; the wisent has 14 ribs, 5 lumbar vertebrae and have horns closer to their faces; they are thus better fighters.
