Black-eyed Susan, a wildflower, is categorised as an annual to a short-lived perennial across its range a flowering plant. It blooms in the first year from the seed planted in early spring, and is accordingly often grown as an annual. It typically occurs in open woods, prairies, fields, roadsides and waste areas. It is famous for its bright-yellow, daisy-like flowers with dark centres. The stems and scattered, oval leaves are covered with bristly hairs. Black-eyed Susan has been found to have immuno-stimulant activity. The juice squeezed from the roots is used for ear-aches.
