The Pycnonotus atriceps (scientific name) or black-headed bulbul is found in forest areas in South-East Asia, more specifically Andaman Islands and North-East India. A medium-sized bird, the black-headed bulbul has a more olive-yellow plumage all over, with a glossy blackish-blue head. The wings and tail feathers have an overlaying pattern of black and olive-yellow, with the tips of the tail feathers being yellow in colour. It resembles the black-crested bulbul, but has blue eyes and no crest on its head. While its diet is comprised mostly of fruits and berries, it also eats insects. The black-headed bulbul is seen in flocks of 6-8 birds. Monogamous breeders, these birds have an average clutch of 4 eggs, incubated for 11-14 days. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
