Black-hooded Sunbeam

The Aglaeactis Pamela (scientific name) or black-hooded sunbeam is found only in the tropical moist and high altitude forests of Bolivia. At 5.1 inches in length, these birds are relatively large in size for hummingbirds. They have purplish-black plumage, while the tail is rufous, chest tufts are white and wings and lower back are glittering blue-green in colour. Their diet is comprised mostly of nectar. But they are known to eat insects as well. Not much is known regarding its breeding pattern and clutch-size. But like other hummingbirds it is assumed that the clutch-size is 2 eggs, which are incubated for approximately 2-3 weeks by the female alone. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
