Blessings at Yates’ Farm

No one took ten-year-old Ted seriously in the village. They would shoo him away and the children teased him. But Ted would smile and go on his way. He was an orphan. Farmer Yates felt very sorry for him and brought him to his farm. He gave him a set of clothes and set him to work. Some days Ted would work in the garden; some days he would tend the vegetable patch. He cleaned the stables and barn and the hen-house. Mrs Yates fed him properly. “I think we can adopt him,” said Mrs Yates one evening. They met Father Fredrick, the priest at the church and he helped them. Now Ted Yates went to school and helped his parents too. Children didn’t tease him any more either. The Yates’ Farm had a great harvest that year and when Father Fredrick came for tea, he said, “You brought blessings to the farm, Mr Yates!”
