Interesting fact : This insect got its name from an old term for meat. If the meat had eggs laid on it, it was known as ‘fly blown’.

The blowfly is extremely colourful and has metallic blue green colouring. Their habitat is comprised of temperate climates with areas which have lose, damp soil. Their diet includes nectar from strong and foul-smelling flowers. The larvae feed on carrion and dung. The female blowfly lays 150-200 eggs at one time.
