The Loriculus galgulus (scientific name) or blue-crowned hanging parrot is mostly found in the forested lowlands from Thailand to Borneo. This parrot is mostly green in colour, with a crown of blue on its head. The adult male has a black beak, a red throat and a rump and yellow lower back. The female is not so brightly coloured. The blue crown is lesser noticeable in it. Their diet is comprised of flowers, fruits, buts seeds and flower buds. An average clutch has 3 eggs, and the female incubates them for 20 days. These parrots are named as hanging parrots for the very reason that they hang upside down when they sleep (like bats). This habit is quite unique in birds. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
