Its trademark pink lips and parted long hair are unique to the bonobo. It lives in the swampy, dark forests and is both arboreal and terrestrial. The decline in their population has been because of war and shrinking habitat. They are an intelligent breed of animals, and are able to understand human instructions, sign language and read even symbols.
