Bornean Bristle-head

The Pityriasis gymnocephala (scientific name) or Bornean bristle-head is found only in the rainforests of Borneo. 9.8 inches in length, this bird has blakish-grey plumage overall, excepting on the head, neck, throat and legs. The head, throat and neck are red in colour, while the crown is featherless and yellow-coloured. The beak and the ear coverts are dark grey. Both male and female have a wing-patch visible during flight. In the male, it is white, and in the female red. Their diet is comprised of plants, vegetables and fruits. Since its nesting site has never been found, not much information has been recorded on its breeding pattern. It is assumed they are communal breeders. Its IUCN listing is NEAR THREATENED.
