Bottle openers come in various forms and varieties. It is used for the simple task of opening bottles by using a blade or lever that is placed under the pleated rim of the bottle and applying pressure by pivoting the opener. They fall under 4 main categories, namely churchkey, simple bottle opener, speed opener and wall-mounted. In 1894, William Painter, who invented the ‘Crown Cork’, invented the ‘chruchkey’ bottle opener. Chruchkey openers were traditionally made out of metal with round or oval-shaped openings that help grip the gap so that it may be yanked open. The various types of bottle openers are wall-mounted, simple bottle openers that are found in homes these days and speed openers. Today there is an increasing demand of designer bottle openers that help promote products, especially beer brands. The first novelty bottle opener that brought this trend was in 1990 in California and was a surfboard bottle opener by Jim Wysopal.
