Brown Booby

The Sula Leucogaster (scientific name) or brown booby is a sea bird which spends winters at sea and breeds on the islands and coasts in the area of the Atlantic and Pacific Islands. 30 inches in length, this bird has blackish-brown plumage on the head, neck, throat, chest, wings and tail. The belly and underparts are white. The beak and the legs are light mint-green in colour. It has short wings and a tapered tail. They are great flyers and also excellent divers and swimmers. Their diet is comprised of small fish and squid which they catch while skimming the water surface. An average clutch of the brown booby contains 1-3 eggs, laid in nests which are made on the ground in colonies. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
