Buttons and Eggs

Benny worked on Amber’s farm because Farmer Amber was training him to become a farmer. Benny enjoyed doing all the things on the farm. “A farmer should be able to do everything and anything,” said Mr Amber. But Benny found two things difficult to learn. One was stitching his buttons! And the other was collecting eggs from the hen-house. Benny was a large young man and clumsy. So, he simply couldn’t thread a needle. And the eggs usually broke when he collected them! “You’ll have to move gently,” explained Amber. Benny knew he’d have to find a way out. He bought a large basket and lined it with a piece of soft cloth. Then he put the eggs into it and managed to bring them without breaking them! One evening, he arrived home with Jane, his bride! Mr and Mrs Amber were surprised but welcomed her. Jane said shyly, “He needed someone to stitch buttons!”
