Up to 150 mm in wingspan, the cairns birdwing is a brightly coloured butterfly, with the male having an emerald green colouring on the upper side. Its habitat includes the rainforest in wet tropic regions of Queensland. Its diet includes nectar from flowers like hibiscus, bougainvillea and lantana. During her entire lifetime, a female may lay as many as 300 eggs.
