Camera evolved from an ancient apparatus called camera obscura. This had a pinhole or lens to get an upside image of the object outside, but this image could not be captured; it was manually drawn. From there it moved on till a guy named Joseph Nicephore Niecpce; a Frenchman used his camera obscura to take the first image. This was during the second half of the second decade of the 19th century. He kept the shutter open for eight hours. The image that was taken faded away soon. Nevertheless, this was the first step towards the invention of a camera. Slowly, the shutter speed was reduced to a few minutes and finally to seconds. The images taken lasted longer and the camera itself began to change. More features were added later on and the printing of the images also evolved. Eastman Kodak, the firm, was founded in the year 1889 and they came up with a flexible paper on which an image was developed from the negatives. ‘Kodak’ by George Eastman was the first roll film that was used in a camera. Since then, cameras have evolved and today digital cameras are most sought after.
