Joseph Fry invented the candy bar in the year 1847. He mixed melted cocoa butter into a defatted cocoa powder and made a batter which was then put into a mould. The result was a bar of chocolate that became popular with people so much so that they enjoyed eating chocolate as good as drinking it. Later in the year 1849 John Cadbury hosted a chocolate candy bar. These chocolate bars are not edible by today’s standards though as they were made of bittersweet chocolate. In 1875, Henry Nestle and Daniel Peter invented what is called milk chocolate. In 1879, bar chocolates came into existence with Rodolphe Lindt adding cocoa butter to chocolate so that they might be made into a bar form. By 1893, machines were introduced to make chocolate and by 1900, chocolate bars were machine-made. Milton S. Hershey was the man behind making these machines.
