The Cape Romano Dome House was built in Florida, in 1980. The Cape Romano Dome House was built as an igloo-like white-dome complex made of concrete. The circular shape of the houses and dome made it highly resistant to winds, but that did not stop the hurricanes that tore through the coast from wrecking the insides of the house. Eventually, with the island changing, the Dome House was deemed unsafe and abandoned.
Amazing Fact: Presently submerged in 6-feet of water, the construction serves as a reef for rich marine life.
