It is a short-lived perennial. The bright blue, cornflower-like blooms of catananche appear continuously from early to late summer and are at their peak in midsummer. They grow in full sun. The plant is rather narrow and upright with little foliage. Its papery petals have a fine silvery stripe through the centre. The flower is also used in dry flower arrangements. The plant provides plenty of bloom from the first year of planting.
