The animal resembles a wild hare; its tail is not visible and larger members of the species weigh almost 36 kilograms and grow to about 52 inches in length. Typically found in scrubland and forests, the cavy lives in groups of six or eight members; they are territorial and colonial, living in groups. They live in dens abandoned by other mammals.
