Cebu Flowerpecker

The Dicaeum quadricolour (scientific name) or Cebu flowerpecker is found only in the forests on the Cebu Island, the Philippines. Until recently, this bird was feared to be extinct. But in 1992, it was spotted in the limestone forests on the island. 4.0-4.5 inches in length, this bird is known for its four distinctive colours. The male has a scarlet coat, ochre lower back, pale yellow underside, and a glossy blue black on the head, neck, wings and tails. The underside is white. In the female, the head, neck and wings are olive and top is brown. These birds are frugivorous, eating mostly berries and fruits. An average clutch has 2-4 eggs laid in a purse-like nest. Its IUCN listing is CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.
