Cedar Waxwing

The Bombycilla (scientific name) genus of birds is comprised of three species known as waxwing which has a cosmopolitan distribution and visible in the UK, in winters. 7-8 inches in length, it is known for its silky soft plumage, pointed wings and short legs. The overall plumage is mainly brown, with a black line that runs through the eyes, black plumage under the chin and a pointed crest. Some wing feathers have unusual red tips, which resemble sealing wax, thus giving it its name. Its diet is comprised of fruits, berries, sap, flowers and insects based on the season. An average clutch has 4-6 eggs. Incubation period varies depending on the breed. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN and NEAR THREATENED based on the species.
