The gundog breed of pointer traces its history back to the early Middle Ages, in the 14th century. They were gifted to Margave Ludwig of Brandenburg by Emperor Charles IV in 1348, for hunting. The beard and moustache are its distinct facial furnishings. Its original colour is roan, and the coat needs plucking twice a year at least.
